Beeswax Candle Care Guide

Beeswax has a very unique profile and like all great things, requires care and attention. Each candle has its quirks - since it is a hard natural wax, it doesn’t behave like other types of natural + synthetic waxes. It is recommended to trim the wick 1/4 inch each time upon lighting, to burn the candle in a safe area away from fire hazards + vents, and light for a minimum of 2.5 - 3 hours, depending on the size of the candle.

Here are some things you may see in your beeswax candles:

Bloom: A white, dusty cast that may spring upon your candles. This cast is a natural occurrence in 100% beeswax candles, & is an indicator of high quality + pure wax.

Shrinking/Splitting/Cracking: Beeswax is a hard wax and shrinks as it cools. It may also split or crack due to differences in temperature between the wax and its environment. This is a normal occurrence in beeswax container candles, but will not affect the burn. Beeswax is ideal in molded structures like pillars & tapers, but with the proper wicking + vessel, can burn beautifully in containers as well.

Long burn times: Beeswax has a high melting point, which is why these candles have bright & long burn times.

Beeswax Candle Safety & Care:

  • Avoid excessive burn times; lighting candles for over 4-5 hours at a time is not recommended.
  • Trim the wick to 1/4 " tall before every burn to keep the wax clean and burning nicely.
  • Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from flammable objects.
  • Beeswax candles are dripless, but need to be burned away from vents, AC’s, & fans so the flame can be stable + prevent dripping.
  • Allow candle to establish a melt pool; a 2.5- 3 hr burn time is recommended upon first lighting. This prevents future tunneling.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep out of reach of pets and children.
